Hyper-Intertextuality: The Temple Cleansing-Rebuilding Tradition as a Compositional Framework in John’s Gospel

Abstract The term ‘intertextuality’ has been in use biblical studies for over three decades. However, the study of relationship elements (e.g. theme and pattern) ot how it functions as a compositional framework nt seems to have gained less attention. This paper, thus, aims investigate whether temple cleansing-rebuilding tradition underlies John’s Gospel by: (1) introducing ‘hyper-intertextuality’; (2) discussing distinctive pericope Jesus’ cleansing Gospel; (3) formulating comparative method adapted from Halliday’s sociolinguistic theory context situation heuristic tool.
